Your teacher friend absolutely can stop contributing. Maybe two years ago there was a court case maybe federally that said they can’t charge agency fees. They automatically stopped deducting unless you opted in. I pay zero union fees.

The mayor and chancellor are getting ridiculous, I thought this was a blue city? Since when do we like dictatorships?

There are ongoing WTU negotiations that directly affect teachers. Principals can't say anything while that process is underway.

This is all due to WTU. We’d have regular hybrid were it not for them. And now they are trying to disrupt things so that we get NOTHING.

Must donate to WTU for thanking them for keeping our kids safe and protecting the teachers who care for my kids. Thank you for the reminder.

Teachers haven't been told assignments yet because of the WTU lawsuit. They were required to pull back the survey that led to the assignments. It's not even really clear what that means or what the point is, because the data is accurate and so they actually can base assignments off of it even if they pull it back. That said, it is a total litigation headache, so it would be much better for all parties involved if DCPS and WTU reached some kind of agreement at least w/r/t that aspect, because then it doesn't matter what the judgment actually says/means.

Right now, teachers don't have information because of the WTU and only because of the WTU. I don't necessarily blame the WTU for their lawsuit -- I mean, they won, it turns out the mayor didn't fulfill her obligations so how mad can I be at WTU for point that out -- but it is actually leading to worse results for teachers at the moment and overall if they end up going ahead anyway (because they'll now have less warning re: their assignments). That said, if it ultimately stops this plan, then it was obviously a tactical win. So we'll see.

I wouldn't be surprised if our principal quits. he's retiring at the end of the year anyway. Wish someone like him would just take a stand and push back. I'm sure the mayor will blink first.

I'm not sure that any one person or principal can move the needle here. Not sure what can, really.
