I had the vet just tell me she was a "good surrogate mom" while our special someone was staying at the vet hospital for surgery. I appreciated it because it meant she cared.

Boy Mom and that other stuff is nonsense. A parent is a parent and the women who make a big deal out of boy mom/girl mom tend to be super obnoxious.

Dog mom-sure, okay. A lot of people my age have pets instead of children, at least for now.

I only side-eye and get upset with them when they got a pet to fill a void-namely, they wanted a baby and their SO wasn't interested and got/allowed it as a sop-and then they ignore or neglect the animal once they get knocked up.

Then they try to foist the animal on me because they don't want it because they don't have time for it. So I'll take dog mom>boy mom>neglectful mom of anything because it means they take it seriously and are (hopefully more likely to be) invested in their welfare.

For 30+ years I was very averse to dogs. I could list everything that’s wrong with them. But then I got one, and she is the light of the house. We refer to her as the little sister. My good friend calls her my favorite kid. Dogs still have the list of issues but man what pure love.

So I don’t call myself a dog mom but if someone did, I’d laugh and accept it.

I didn’t start the thread. There are more than a few people out there who think the dog mom thing is pathetic and ridiculous. Sorry! I know you can’t truly understand, not being a mother, but it really is a joy to have a child and no pet can ever compare.

You probably don’t realize it, but you sound like you’re trying to convince yourself of this. I can’t understand why, if you are so joyous, you’d be bothered by someone else’s use of dog mom. If you are really secure in your life decisions, this wouldn’t register. Dog owners aren’t taking away from your status as a mother—and we aren’t trying to.

Trust me, I am very secure in my choices. I just think that in general, acting like dogs are on the same level as children is harmful to society. And a little bit insulting to mothers of human children. That’s how we’ve ended up with dogs in grocery stores and tiny children being blamed if they are bitten by a dog.

Dogs obviously aren't the same as children.

Your dog gets run over and will never be the same again, the vet will probably offer you the option of euthanizing the animal. Your child gets run over and will never lead a normal life again, the doctor will not offer you the option of euthanizing your child.

Maybe it sounds like I'm trolling but I'm not. I love dogs but people who think dogs and children are comparable make me laugh.
