This. I see very few bikers that blow through stop signs when there is cross traffic. Personally, I often don't stop at stop signs or red lights if it's safer -- if I can see there's no cross traffic, it's actually much better to proceed when I know there won't be any cars overtaking me and turning into my path.

I sincerely hope the people telling bicyclists to get on a bike path are working really hard to get a connected and protected network of bike arterials throughout the city.

Trust me, if there was a better option we'd be on it. No one likes being around you when you're driving.

Total BS. I drive on Beach Drive and Rock Creek Parkway daily and there are multiple douchebags in their idiotic outfits who think they are just too special for the perfectly good bike path right next to it. I bike a lot as well and when I have to be on the road, and there are 10 cars respectfully trailing along behind me, I move to the side and let them pass. Why is this so difficult?

It's not a "bike path" (f$cking or not). It's a shared-use path. A cyclist on the path shares it with: pedestrians, parents pushing kids in strollers, people walking dogs on a leash that often extends over the path, kids on skateboards, joggers wearing earbuds so they can't hear if you are coming up on them. Last time I checked, the bike path adjacent to Beach Drive had a lot of bumps caused by tree roots pushing through. Please try to be a bit more civil, OK? According to signs posted on Beach Drive in MoCo, commercial vehicles are prohibited on Beach Drive. They tend to be a lot wider than ordinary passenger vehicles, although the recent trend toward large SUVs blurs that distinction. That law is never enforced. The guys in trucks need to make a living, and they have to put up with congestion to get to and from their work. Just like the underpaid and overworked Amazon delivery drivers, who park in designated bike lanes in downtown DC because Amazon or FedEx has imposed unrealistic delivery quotas on them. I get it. But Beach Drive was never intended for large commercial vehicles, and bikes lanes in downtown DC are for cyclists.

BTW, I've been cycling for many years and I have never worn Spandex. Never will. OK?
