This place is so white that it's calling 5'6" extremely short. Do you not know any Hispanics or Asians?

My colleague's husband is that height and she said she initially ghosted him because of it. He was confident, aware of why, and came back. Totally won her over and they are happy now with two kids. She acknowledges today that walking away initially was silly and shallow. She was in her mid 20s too.

Natural enough.

I knew someone when I was young who was a "manlet" except where it counts. He had a huge amount of confidence and got a lot of action. Once you got to know him : ) you learned why. He had an unusually large penis.

You don't, or your DH doesn't, PP. Sorry but height doesn't begin to compare to length.

This is such a weird post.

Who wants to date a short man-whore?

Plenty of women. That's the point of the post.

Gf also said she probably would have gone for a different guy if I hadn’t tried hard in the beginning because my height was a negative for her as well. Is this a red flag?

WTH? I think both statements from your GF are red flags and you should consider running. Unless there is some heavy context missing.

He is a great husband, wonderful, caring father. But also works out and keeps in good shape and has some great muscles and is only getting hotter with age.
i

I don’t think of 5’6” men as short.

That he adores her is *more* important to you? It should be the ONLY thing that’s imporant. How they look together shouldn’t be a consideration at all, geez (“funky”.?? Wtf).

There is actually a subset of women who like short men, and in DC they seems to be in strong supply.

But your GF mother is just concerned about grandkids. Fact is taller people generally do better...you can see how the gene pool has evolved to favor taller people. Maybe show her pictured of tall relatives so she knows there are some recessive genes working?

This is 100% note relevant to the OP's situation.

Your gf shouldn’t be saying these sorts of things to you. It’s flat out rude and unkind. It could be she’s just immature, or it could be a sign of poor character. You’ll have to figure out which, and decide if there’s really a future there with here.

This. I’d have to wonder why GF is sharing what her mother is saying and why she feels the need to add her own “I wouldn’t have dated you, if...”. How old is she? I think she has some more maturing to do.

There was a a short, nice looking, flirty guy in my dorm who seemed to date very successfully. I mean, this guy had "game" and he got lots of action. Over the years, he had multiple girlfriends over 5 feet 9 inches tall. Progressive borderline super models seemed to really like him.

Anyway, after a while, his name became part of what was almost a call and response style cheer that women in the dorm would say to one another.

Woman no. 1: "Joe Smith."

Woman no. 2: "Sure he's short, but it doesn't matter when you're lying down!"

OP should use this line to his GF's mother.

"Big D energy" was coined because of him.

It's a red flag that gf would tell you something hurtful which should have no bearing on your relationship. It's almost as if she is trying to undermine your confidence.

So true.

Your gf should be able to decide for herself if you are marriage material, how she feels about the height difference now that you have been dating, and how she feels about you. Her mom should not be in the middle of your relationship. The question is if this is relationship immaturity or is it part of who she is and one of those packaged deals.

The red flag to me is that she needs her mom to help make up her mind and she repeats back what her mom says.
