Several things going on. We really talked to him about managing expectations and whether he should do a gap year. So, he went in with the mindset that anything with more freedom than living in his old bedroom and learning in the back is a win. Second, he’s quiet and an introvert. Even if frat parties were safe, he’d be avoiding them. In fact, he sought out colleges that didn’t have frats.
And third, his college has done a great job with their COVOD planning. He knew kids before he arrived, was hooked up with older students, etc.
0 cases on surveillance testing this week.
Great! Can I ask which school, not b/c of covid, but I have an introvert and looking fir good fit schools.
It sounds like Oberlin, where my DC is a junior. They are doing a great job managing this. 25% of the population has been tested each week; the last round of testing showed two positive cases. The school owns a hotel in town which it is using for quarantining.

W&M just did full testing of residential students and they still have under 10 cases total. My kid there has all in-person classes (selected purposefully), but many kids have a combo. The smart thing they did was have the upperclassmen arrive Sept 8 instead of August. They are very strict about indoor gatherings/social distancing, but do things to enable outdoor social life. I think they could do even better on this, but kid is fairly happy. There was a big crackdown on parties the first weekend the upperclassmen were back, and they are being very tough on Greek life.
