He seemed in good spirits the whole break so we really didn't think he needed to go back to school for the social aspect. And then i picked him up from school on day 1, and holy smokes, i forgot what my happy hyper kid was like. It's been pretty great to see this week.
No word of any covid cases in our school district after 1 week, but i don't even know if they've agreed to release data - so it's possible they just aren't saying. But the next county over has been open for 3 weeks and definitely has cases that they report, but it still seems to be 1 or 2 kids per school who likely got it in the community, and doesn't yet seem to be spreading in the schools.
I honestly just went and asked my wife if she posted this!! It sounds, verbatim, what our situation is like. So relieved at the choice we made and that things are going well. Continued good luck!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I'm more interested in asking you questions AFTER your child goes back to school, when everything is less rosy and optimistic.
Ask away. Just finishing up the first week and things are going GREAT!

Anonymous wrote:My 8 year old is on day 3 of back to school, and says everyone got used to everything really fast - doesn't care about the mask, the plastic shields at their desks, the kids logging in from home. When people cited "but how will kids possibly wear masks!!" as a reason to not go back to school, you knew they were just grasping at straws to make any excuse possible.

My elementary age kids practiced mask wearing during the summer and they have no problem with it. My preschooler was not a fan initially, but when he saw his siblings going off to school with masks this morning, he immediately demanded a mask. I expect he will be fine wearing it when all the other kids are. He goes back Friday.
Has he worn it for hours at a time? That's the real issue. Even as an adult, wearing a mask for 5+ hours is really hard.
