Based on the current crime/murder rate I'd say life with the MPD isn't that great anyways.
True but it can and will get worse. Imagine that.
With appropriate social programs it can and will get better. Imagine that.

honest question, I support the police, but most of the time they come after the incident happen...
That really isn't true though. That's when you see them or hear about them. Every interdicted gun they pull off the street has possibly prevented a shooting/murder.
We can do a lot better than "possibly prevent" by funding social programs that reduce poverty.
And how many lives are you willing to lose until change kicks in? It's not like it's overnight. It will take a generation.

Anyone?
Cut police force in NW. hire more crime or violence interrupters. If every other young person in SE and NE is hired by police, the crime will be down.

Police here don't stop shootings/ crime in any way. They respond to calls. Ask any current MPD officer. More opportunities and resources in communities do.

And, there is a huge push now among Dems to call for greater density and an end to single family zoning.
Maybe we could try a mix with greater density, significantly reduced poverty, and while we're at it, maybe -no- definitely cut the systemic racism.
Let’s start with vouchers so that poor black kids aren’t trapped in failing schools.
The vouchers don't actually help. The schools aren't necessarily the problem if you don't work on the rest of the systemic racism.
Send a kid to a shitty private school but still lock up his dad for a minor marijuana offense, stop and frisk him repeatedly, discriminate against him when he applies for jobs...
So don’t actually do anything to change the system because there will still be individual racists.
Typical.
Exactly the opposite. Solve the systemic issues and then the individual racists won't matter.
Allowing parents more choices is a systemic change.
Keeping black and brown poor children trapped in a failing school system until every racist can be identified and reformed is just the usual "pretend to care while actively blocking concrete change".
