The people who just left them alone for so long...do your kids not ever go swimming? You can't swim in a pool with molluscum or warts b/c they are contagious.

I just used differin gel on the spots. It irritated them, and then they went away. I think it triggered something in the body, because after that any news ones that popped up went away really fast. My kid had tons al the face, neck, arms, legs etc.

This was my DD too, except age 5. She had some scars as they healed, but no scars now.

I know this is old but word to the wide. My son had a horrible case of them on his torso—we waited too long to nip it in the bud. Go to the derm if you see this, they’ll zap them with beetle juice (can’t remember what it’s called!) and that’s that. Whenever you see one, get it zapped. A few appointments and it was all fine. They spread if you don’t get them under control.

Tretinoin .05%, applied to every lesion every other day and covered each one with a circle bandaid. Applied carefully so it didn't irritate the surrounding skin. It was a pain and had to be really diligent about it but they were resolved within a couple of months. They were on my teen's trunk and there were a lot of them, and summer was coming - he was really embarrassed about swimming and we didn't want him to spread to friends he would be around shirtless at camp and the pool, so we wanted to be aggressive about it. Have not come back and it's been a couple of years.

My DC's went away after about 5 months of DILIGENT covering. Get the biggest waterproof bandages you can find and cover the spots, then replace bandages every 2-3 days.

Cover each “pimple” with 3M micropore medical tape and only replace when it falls off. They should be gone in weeks, not months.

Oh boy, we tried many things, but in the end I think they just went away on their own, it took 1 year. They eventually turned into an infected pimple looking thing that last about 1-2 weeks and I think this was when the body was finally attacking them. The pimple thing eventually cleared up and the molluscum bump was gone. At first it left a purple scar, then that faded to a small divet. Luckily none were on the face. If anything worked, it was the ZymaDerm from Amazon because the pimples started showing up about a month after we tried that. Could have just been coincidental timing.

We were able to successfully get rid of some of the big ones by popping off the head and covering with a bandaid, but my child would scream bloody murder, so we abandoned that method.

We just waited it out. They eventually went away (6 months?)

Molluscum generally doesn't spread to adults, with developed immune systems.

I know someone randomly bumped this up but wanted to share the treatment plan and recommendations from our ped derm. Our DS had "molluscum dermatitis" - a super fun combo of molluscum bumps and eczema flares all over his legs and butt. She lanced each individual lesion to remove the head (yuck) and applied a bandaid. She told us to do the same - as soon as we saw a head, use a sterilized comodone extractor to squeeze it out and put a little dot bandaid on it. Let me tell you how amenable my 4 yo was to that situation. Biggest takeaways were:
- supplement with zinc (we got the blueberry ez melts) to try to keep the immune system reaction against the virus strong
- after every bath, moisturize with cerave. Any dryness in the skin can contribute to spread
- pop, swab with alcohol, cover. religiously. We went through boxes of the dot band-aids
- she did not recommend the beetle juice treatment for young skin unless the case was really disfiguring and called it a "cosmetic only" treatment, said it does not attack root cause or prevent new lesions from occurring

From the first few lesions we noticed on his upper thigh to full on outbreak to fully clear was a little over a year, and no one else in our house got it.

We left them alone and allowed his body to heal from the virus. It took about 10 months. Our pediatrician strongly advised against freezing or chemicals. We were careful not to share towels or bedding. No one else in the family caught it. And I have five children.
