Yes, five and above. Perhaps it’s because I grew up with a lot of families with four kids and still know some now. I am one of two and have two, for what that’s worth.

I think 5 is where the crazy train begins. DH is from a large family with several of his siblings having large families. 2 or 3 kids are great. But by the 4th you can tell some of the kids suffer. And by 5 there's normally a kid who isn't getting what he needs because the parents have to focus on their others.

As baby #5, my husband adamantly refused more that 4 kids (we're aiming for 3)

No eight is enough.

Actually I’d say 5 for OP’s question but I would think of blended families differently. Also if you have kids ranging in age from toddler to college graduate that makes me do a double take (again different for blended families).

Hate to burst your bubble but I got married at 24, had my first kid at 28 and second at 31. We decided to stop at 2 and very happy we did. We live in a very comfortable house but it isnt 7,000 square foot.

There maybe some jealous people but most people will secretly say "I'm glad I'm not them!"


I wanna be clear, I'm not in any way jealous, nor is my spouse of anyone who has 3 or more kids. We think you're crazy and we would never want that. We have plenty of money and I'm a sahm.

I’m not sure where the line is. I know blended families of 4 and 5 kids, and they are perfectly normal. I also know a blended family with 8 kids, and that is too many!

I would say 5.

I have two kids, and I think that is pretty standard for this area. Three or four might be seen as a bigger family, but not crazy big. 5+ is notable.

I have 5 children. They range in age from toddler to high school age. I’m a former catholic school teacher and I always wanted a big family.

I feel like more that 5 means you’re motivated by something other than planning/wanting that many kids. I grew up with too many kids in my family so that makes me queasy.
