Master is an ancient word that referred to the head of a household, and a household included all the servants within the household, along with the family. It's a word that long predates any connotation with slavery.
Probably the closest equivalent to the ancient medieval concept of a master of a household is found in African nations these days.
It's interesting to see what people get offended over these days.

In England they are called the master bedroom. In their case the master was in charge if the Serg’s who toiled on estates and were at least paid in rudimentary shelter and food.

I would like someone to answer what they call those bedrooms in England and other english speaking countries. I guess one xoukd just say the en suite bedroom? Like hotels with bathrooms en suite?
