And help create dangerous situations
Anonymous wrote:OP here. Again, there were many cars driving in the left lane... not just passing, but driving. As a matter of fact, the cop pulled over another driver for doing the exact same thing just a few minutes later, so clearly everyone isn't aware that this is actually a law. And for those saying I would have known a cop was behind me had I been paying attention....well, I WAS paying attention to what was before and behind me, but I was driving a small car and the cop was in a huge SUV. The sirens were not visible to me due to the height disparity between our vehichles so I had no idea a police car was behind me. Anyway, lesson learned on my part. Thanks to all who offered civil and informative feedback.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:While the cop may have acted inappropriately, driving 50 mph in the left lane of the GW Pkwy is stupid.
It's not against the law.

She broke the law by riding unnecessarily in the passing/left lane.
This. I’m surprised so many people on this thread don’t know this law. The left lane is for passing only.
I will bet that every single poster who didn’t know this is from Virginia.![]()

“Several other states already have this bill,” said Parrott. “Actually a majority of states do. We’re only one of five states … that has weak or no laws talking about the left lane.”
