Having coached at several clubs I can tell you it's not uncommon for people to be slow to respond.

Sometimes it's cause people are weighing / waiting for options. Sometimes it's due to laziness or not enough funds to commit right away / owe money from last year (yeah it happens... more than you'd think!)

Eventually clubs will release your slot, but in general you have more than the 48/72hrs they normally ask for. I wouldn't push it too hard though, especially if you're a first team player.

Understood, but I have had three kids play for Alexandria over the course of the past 10 years, and this is the first time we've received such an email. So I believe that the COVID pandemic is having an effect.

I understand some age groups at Alexandria are receiving a significant amount of interest from laterals, so I am not surprised they are asking for a reply within 48/72 hours.

Alexandria admins back on the boards...

Wrong, bozo. Parent who was asked to provide game film for lateral kids from other teams where kids did not have their own film. Grow up.

Expansion year teams (U11, U13) might take a bit longer as there is more player movement.

I'd imagine most offers would be made by mid June for the larger age groups.

Yeah, we're a returning Alexandria family. I have a kid in one of the high school age groups. We haven't heard anything, and we are sitting on another offer. I'd rather we stay, but would prefer to move up to red due to very uneven commitment levels.

High school-aged Boy? Did you look to another club solely due to the white team’s lack of commitment?

We had the same problem with white teams for our kids—lack of commitment, behavior issues in practice, lack of respect, etc. You get about 50% team commitment tops. It’s very frustrating for the kids that want to be there and are giving 110%.

Commitment really drops after red. We aren’t planning to take any lower team offer.

Commitment drops after red for all the age groups in Alexandria? Both boys and girls? Or just the 2005 and older teams (high school aged)? We are looking for an older age group at Alexandria and this would be helpful information as my kid would be new.

Unfortunately, that's kind of normal for any top club.

We learned to never accept anything lower than a first team offer. The difference after having kids on a second team to a first team (and not necessarily training--everything) is completely different.

Can you elaborate?

Moving up is not that simple. Top teams many times rather take a player from another top team/club instead of moving up a player for the same reasons you stated. Usually coaches would talk to lower team coaches to see if player is a good fit on top team.

Not the OP, but in general, people understand that. However, the point is that there is not an infinite number of very top level players looking to make a move in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic. Maybe they'll find one, and if so, awesome for them. Maybe they won't and will have to take a white team player who is towards the top of that team, since, at the end of the day, they need to field teams to make money.

But, to be clear, we are not red or white team.

Anonymous wrote:Anyone know how many teams there are for each age group?

I don’t mean how many have assigned coaches, but how many teams there will actually be??

Like does a team with coach “TBD” mean they’re hiring someone or that they don’t k ow if they have enough for a team? And are they really keeping the same number of teams in the move from 7 v 7 to 9 v 9 with the 2010s?

The goal is to always try to keep teams going for as long as realistically possible. TBD generally means either they expect to expand and don't have a current coach assigned or it's an existing team and they haven't figured out the details yet.

Was there a specific age group you're looking at?

leaving lmvsc, yes we are looking for any serious club and alexandria fits the bill (closer than arlington as well)

They’ll be plenty of spots at Alexandria. Lots of those kids are looking to move.

In the older boys age groups?! Where are they going?
