JMU - fantastic fit, fantastic outcome. I was a skeptical mom and glad my kid dug in and went where he wanted to go.

For me it was UNC. But, this was 20+ years ago, I was instate and validictorian.

I only applied to 4 schools: UNC, Wake, Duke a and Davidson. Clearly no one reminded me I could apply OOS. Got full scholarships to 3.

My kids work so much harder than I did and have much better test scores. I sat once for the SAT. They would not to apply to all 4 and get into one.SMH.

St. Olaf, Wooster and Pitt were my kids safeties and he really liked all 3.

I graduated ten years ago from NYU CAS. It was my first choice, and at the time it wasn’t really a reach. My schools college guidance was very good about putting kids on track for where they’d get in. I applied early decision, and early action to a few more surer safeties (like Maryland) but I never reached an applied to Columbia or anything. It sounds like it’s an entirely different game now though, which is insane considering how competitive things were even when I was in HS. NYU median SAT score this year was a 1540! That was NOT the case when I went there, although it was really an excellent school academically.
