This is us too.

We are strict. We haven’t been had in person contact with anyone outside our immediate family for over 2 weeks now. We only leave our property to go for walks, where we make sure we stay away from other people. We are taking this seriously and trying to do our part.

Unfortunately, our neighbors aren’t taking this very seriously. Two other families on our cul de sac have continued to let their kids play together while also having guests over. Yesterday the kids were wrestling each other outside. Last night one of the families had at least 15 people on their deck for dinner. And our close friends two doors down who had been keeping their kids away from other kids texted us last night that it was “just too hard” to keep their elementary school kids from playing with friends, so they were going to start letting their kids play with other neighborhood kids.

So we are following all guidelines. I just wish everyone else would, too.

Yes that’s the whole entire point of “flattening the curve.” Extending the time of the outbreak so you ensure that hospitals aren’t all overwhelmed with sick people all at once. You have a longer outbreak period but better heath outcomes. Key word, LONGER (but less severe all at once) outbreak period. The closures and social distancing measures help make sure not everyone gets sick at the same time.
