We are telling our 5 year old that it is a new germ, it probably would not be very dangerous to us but could be dangerous to other people, so all over the world people are cooperating by staying home to make it so the germ doesn’t hurt people. He is doing important work by helping other people. It’s hard for all of us but we can handle it. <—-there is a great PEP webinar, audio available for free on their site, with this messaging. Yes I have. Is your point that things could be worse?
I think the point is that if the dad in the movie could make being in a concentration camp less scary for his son, we should be able to make staying at home for awhile not seem so bad.

I used to have a weekly FaceTime breakfast with my niece (2.5yr). Now I have a daily breakfast, plus additional calls for me to read books, her to show me her dolls, tell me about her cats. My brother is trying to work from home 1000 miles from me and this gives him a few minutes to breathe while knowing she’s actively engaged with me. She also talks to grandparents, cousins, and a daycare friend.

I wouldn’t lie to a child. Kids can get this.
Do you think a 3 year old can understand the nuance of “you might get it, but it likely won’t be as bad as if grandma gets it?”

Not everyone has that. My parents are in NYC with my grandma, waiting for COVID test results.
