Meagan Markle did it for Prince Harry. She opened the car door for him. That was very sweet. But White women are still mad at her because she is 1/2 Black.

I hate when people say that women need to be protected! We are not delicate little flowers! Today is International Women's Day, how about we take a break from insulting and infantilizing women just for today, because I know it is too much to ask for it to stop all together.

I think what they are saying is don't stand back if a woman is being attacked by a man, verbally or physically. Face it most men are stronger and bigger.

I notice that white women under 40 never hold the door open for anyone. They expect the door to be held open for them.

When I was dating, I took men doing things like that as a sign of kindness. I only had a problem with it if it was accompanied by a patronizing attitude (which it wasn't necessarily).

I think people need to calm down and focus on the actually sexist things some men do, not on men opening the door for women or pulling out a chair for her at a restaurant.

I'm going to explain to my teen son that he shouldn't do things like randomly opening a door for a female friend if he wouldn't do it for a male friend. 9/10 times it's going to be seen as a turn-off to a teen girl in this day and age, plus it's based in a way of thinking and doing (patriarchy) that I absolutely don't want him to adopt. I will continue to teach him to be aware of people around him and how he can be helpful and make their lives a tiny bit easier by doing things like holding open heavy doors, especially for people of all ages and genders who have their hands full.

If it was considerate then it would be something that both males and females would do for both males and females because we should all be considerate. When it is something that only guys are being taught to do for women, it isn't about being considerate. So yes, if her teen son was being taught to open the car door for everyone - his male and female friends, and to have others open the car door for him out of acting considerately - that would be a different post.
