Subject: Can you tell me about Frederick Maryland + your opinion on this home inside?
There are a fair number of jobs out there. I see no reason to commute to DC
You could maybe work in Germantown or some western part of Baltimore, even Hagerstown
I think it is a nice town if you are looking to leave the DC area. Just remember that to leave DC you need a job in the new location

I love the Frederick house, but there’s nothing like it at that price with a sane commute into DC.
Not everybody wants to live in a condo or a sh*t shack.
Rethinking working in DC is the best option.
Exactly. The house OP listed shows her style very clearly. Nothing posted has matched that or come close.
I can't imagine the amount of privilege you must have to believe that finding a new job is a better or easier solution than compromising on the style/amount of upgrades desired in a house.
So it’s better to settle for a home you don’t love just to say you have a 5 min commute and live in NW? Sorry, but I could never live in a fixer upper I couldn’t afford to fix just to live close in. I’m not giving up bathrooms, space and style. Work is just a place I go to make money. Home is where I live.

Why? It accurately describes those over priced, tiny, crappy homes. Not all small homes are crappy, but I drive past plenty in Spring Valley.

I drive past that house often, and it's on a main road, but still a very cute house. Just need to get red porch.

OP, if the original house in your post is all you can afford, you may want to estimate what the fuel and other auto expenses are, before you consider that commute. That commute is brutal, and, IMO, unrealistic. I know two people whom do it, and, they look horrible. I cannot imagine the health impact alone.

What about renting in Arlington? Good schools, good commute to Foggy Bottom. You could also look for sales of affordable/subsidized condos and townhomes, which come up from time to time (assuming your income is 75% or less than median).
