Are you willing to make the commute to Haynes or Capital City? If not, I'd drop Cap City (no PreK 3 offers last year) and add Burroughs.


Cap Coty did a make offers for preK last year. We matched there on lottery day, and I know of at least one other family that matched without having sibling preference.

I think if you are OK with your choices, you should be OK that your worse case scenario is getting into Capital City (Maybe), EL Haynes, Creative Mind and Bunker. To me those the most likely you get in.


FYI that Capital City (and el haynes) was way more competitive than I anticipated when I did the PreK3 lottery last year. So if you really like Capital City I would list it higher.

/\ I would say guaranteed not to be in the same position as before. Unless she was last on the waitlist or the school had nobody on the waitlist, she'd go to the end of the line.

That said, I think Sela is a great safety school. One she'd be happy at and potentially stay longer than anticipated. But unless she'd really prefer Sela over the others below, it doesn't make sense to rank it so high with much more competitive schools below.

Looks like a well thought out list, OP! One thing, since Sela makes a lot of initial offers and clears it's list very early in the summer, just be aware that you are pretty much guaranteed to get an offer by June and all of the schools below will drop off. If you truly prefer Sela to your numbers 8-12, then that's great. If not, then consider moving Sela below them.


I don't think this is true for waitlist movement (that if you get an offer for a school that schools ranked below fall off). I think that is only true for the initial lottery.


Good point, you only lose your spot when you enroll at the school. So OP could get an offer at Sela off the waitlist, decline, and stay on the rest of the waitlists. But what's the point of listing it if you're going to decline to hold your place at other schools? Although, last year Sela had 50 seats for Pre-K3 and 10 on the initial waitlist (and fewer than 10 on the waitlists for previous years). So odds are still good she'd get matched there in the initial lottery and lose those other schools immediately.


If OP enrolls in Sela, she would drop off the wait lists for other schools. She can add them again, but she will likely not be in the same position as before accepting Sela.
