For all the jacka$$es poopooing HS, wake up. Look at all the DI commits from the DMV and tell me again that elite players don't enjoy HS soccer. Most all of the DI commits going to high-end schools chose HS over DA.
I don't disagree that aspects of HS soccer are horrible but you are a fool if you think most players don't enjoy it.
They play HS soccer because they almsot have no effing choice. There is no ECNL season during HS. If the don't play HS they don't play.
They like the social aspects but they hate playing with your crappy kid who can't receive a pass and can only run straight.
You should stop posting because you come across as a complete muppet. ECNL takes the HS season off because girls like playing HS. If they didn't, they would play DA and ECNL would go out of business.
Why don't you back out of this discussion and take your a$$-backward approach elsewhere?
Ironically, ECNL never liked the girls playing HS. The ECNL support of HS is a recent phenomenon to separate themselves from the DA. The added bonus was the ECNL teams could keep their rates stable while decreasing their training time. Additionally, they realized they could carry larger rosters because some of the HS girls would stick with the school sports only during that season or get injured more frequently, and they would need additional kids for their tournaments.
If you think clubs stayed in ECNL because of Kids demanding HS soccer, you are wrong. It is more profitable and less work to run an ECNL team.
Some girls do like playing HS ball, but some others (once they’ve played more competitive soccer) think it is a complete waste of time. Most D1 programs won’t care about your HS games or playing time. The commits got into the schools based upon their performance at a club (indeed a good way to lose all consideration for a school is to send a HS clip reel).

High school soccer is crap.
McDonalds sucks yet people still go because they like it. We aren't discussing quality if HS soccer. The issue is that girls play and thus any league that offers elite travel while also offering the ability to pursue HS is better than other options.
Pursing rec soccer is not a better option. Sorry, but the product is crap. You pay $10,000 a year for ECNL training to walk away from it for 3-4 months.
Tell me your kid made Varsity soccer and I'm unimpressed. It is a crap product, coached by crap coaches played by lots of crappy soccer players.
Not sure if you realize that more than 75% of girls in Maryland who receive D1 scholarships play in High School. I think part of the issue is HS Soccer is not as popular as MANY other places in the US. Many in the Colonial states consider High School Soccer more important than DA/ECNL. SEVEN of the TOP 10 Junior Girls in Maryland, five of which already have selected D1 scholarships, played for their high school last fall.

Now if you are talking Top 10 College Programs in the US, that may be a different story. And if your are that arrogant/ignorant to think your DD is one of them, then it is pure luck, nothing else. 98% of all girl soccer players do not receive scholarships to college.
You are that parent, you know, the one pipe dreaming your daughter is going to make a USWNT. Or hoping your DD is going to go to Stanford or UNC and warm the bench perhaps. All while they lose out on they're childhood and teenage years because you, the parent, lost site of what is really important when your DD was age 11.
That said, you can take your high and mighty attitude elsewhere and anyone else who is of the same mind and GO POUND SAND.
And here is McLean's list. They put 13 kids in top D1 programs alone but 7 high school kids in the State of Maryland is nice.

You sound a lot like you have kids playing only for themselves playing only along themselves in front of parents playing with themselves. Stop being so damned petty and realize all of your kids are probably going to be working and voting for people who never went near a pitch. Perhaps some perspective about what really matters for them in the long run? It will serve your children better than this nonsense.
They play because they love the game regardless of who is watching. Those elite kids who do slum it for the HS team might like the 15 more people who show up for a girls HS soccer game but they hate playing with your crappy rec kid who doesn’t know what they are doing. They hate playing for a dumb HS coach who plays a crappy simple direct soccer that can only be coached over 3 months to kids who don’t have the skill set for anything more demanding. She also hates playing against similarly bad players who only know how to foul risking injury and her college career.
It is crap played by kids who are crappy at soccer coached by crappy coaches being told by delusional parents how amazing it is.

Not really. It is a social/cultural experience that some people are deep into. Others, not so much. My DD can't stand it. Even watching it is painful to her because it's just such a low level event to watch.
And the parents that complain about the "trapped 8th graders" under birth year fail to recognize the almost complete shutdown of club soccer during the HS season. Basically, if you are not in DA, of high school age and do not play high school soccer, you are not playing soccer.
Trapped players are playing on other teams within their clubs.
What do the private school kids in Virginia do who play ECNL? Their HS season and busy ECNL season are together. I'm wondering what they do in the spring when there is no ECNL and no HS soccer? DO clubs continue to practice? Are there spring showcases? Or do they just take a break?

No, they don’t prefer it to club ball. Because the club season is shut down to accommodate high school soccer they almost have no choice but to play High School if they want to play any soccer games during that time period at all.

HS soccer is fun for the kids that play just like any other school related activity. It is also not a “product.” But you seem to be very invested in calling it crap, for something you think is crap. Why so vested? I can probably guess ...
