We are on Sienna #2 (red-light-running asshole killed the first one, but I can vouch for their safety in a way I never wanted to), and it’s an immensely practical car. Sliding doors, drives like a car, excellent cargo space, especially with fold-into-floor seats.

And I love the Tesla owner shaking people for not buying an $80K car that goes less than 250 miles per charge. I have owned 4 cars that didn’t cost $80K total, and two were brand new. DCUM never ceases to amaze me. Not everyone is DCUM “middle class” rich.

But what is the total cost to the environment? [I do not know the answer] For example, where do the raw materials come from for the battery? How long will a battery work? How is it reused after the life of the car? What is the cost of a new factory? What is the cost of creating new charging stations? The charging stations in ____________ what is the power source?

I think people do not typically do the full lifecycle cost of the product and only the inputs / outputs of 1 factor.

[also - Tesla has horrible OSHA records. What is the cost of a leg?

You are completely missing the point of electric vehicles. I don't care that it accelerates quickly. The freaking planet is on *fire*. Continuing to prioritize your convenience and comfort over global warming is pretty indefensible.


Not cheap enough buddy! This is where the Government should step in and subsidize the manufacture of electric cars. Tesla has done its part. Invent the car and make the patents free.
