Huh??
What high school did that?
The deadline for all of the registrations is moved earlier than it used to be. They are trying to move the hiring season earlier so that MCPS can hire new teachers sooner than June (which is when it used to be). By then we were missing the opportunity to hire the best teachers. Course registration starts the process, then staffing happens, then teacher transfers, then new hiring.
Please register at your home high school now, even if you are waiting to hear. That way you get your electives and you are accounted for in staffing.
Does anyone know what's up with RM? The HS counselor won't even be meeting with JW 8th graders until early February. There have been no rising 9th grade open houses like at Wootton. Why is their registration so late compared to everyone else?
Correct me if I am wrong but unlike Wootton, RM has a county-wide IB magnet program, to which applied a whole
LOT of kids from the entire MoCo. MCPS will notify students who got accepted into test-in magnet programs including
IB at RM by the end of January. Many kids will get accepted to more then one program. Nobody knows when the
decisions letters will arrive to the homes of the students. It is fairly logical speculation that MCPS did the right
decision to give some time for the letters to arrive and then some more for the students to decide weather
to accept the invitation to the program, choose if accepted to more or decline. It is a process.
One could assume that the Early February date is set to accommodate the time needed for all the letters
to arrive and for all the kids to sort their situation. That will give all the kids both magnet and non magnet
equal chance to register to the shared classes at RMIB since magnet kids do share many classes with
non-magnet kids.
This is not a fact, this is an opinion.
