I can’t believe I’m quoting this from 2019, but horns down. There’s only one! Boomer and Sooner. As my spouse likes to tease me, I’m rooting for convicts. There may be another Sooner in the family if the kid feels at home during their admitted student day.

The Shockers are one of my favorite - an angry, muscular wheat sheaf.

To be a good mascot, a college be able to clearly explain why it was chosen.

Wolverines, buckeyes, hoosiers, gophers - state nicknames - excellent
Gators, buffalos, banana slugs, nittany lions - animals native to the area - excellent
Minutemen, pirates, colonials, cavaliers - historical figures with ties to area - good
Wildcats, tigers, bulldogs, random bird - unoriginal, terrible - my kids not allowed to attend

Obie, the Albino Squirrel. Oberlin (which does have albino squirrels on campus). Legend has it that you can’t graduate unless/until you can take a picture of one.

(This is not a school that’s into sports, obviously).

I'm glad this got revived. The mascots people are posting are mostly new to me and I love 'em. I will add:

Vassar's mascot is the Brewer, because the college founder made money in the brewing industry. So, beer built Vassar College! (No, it does not flow out of the taps there, but that would be fitting.)
