Animosity is mostly here on DCUM. Sidwell family and from my point of view, I have lots of GDS friends from neighborhood and from former k-8. If anything, friends share similar complaints at both schools...and GDS friends are more than willing to share dislikes about the school.

Anyone have any real/updated info on the status of the Sidwell plan? The website says that the plan is for the US to start classes at the Washington Home site in fall 2024.

Why such a long lead time? Is there a funding issue? Also, does anyone know when construction would plan to start? I would assume it would take 2+ years, including interior demolition work and site prep.

Any milestones to keep watch of to see if Sidwell is on schedule?

The celebrated GDS “Roster of Aces” - board member, insiders and some major developers who are waiting in the wings to assume control of the project, after GDS as the visible parter obtains all of the approvals.

It has already been explained. They had the opportunity to purchase 3939 Wisconsin Ave, and now control the whole city block other than the Post Office. And with that, after evaluation, decided to move the US rather than the LS into the Washington Home space, so that caused a revamping and rethinking of the campus plans as a whole and the building plans specifically. "Somehow" indeed.

GDS is backed some experienced partners on the project. They all will move forward and GDS will realize a very large return. Unlike a few years ago, DC is a developer town now.

Didn’t the GDS plan include building on the lot on Wisconsin? Now it looks like they are just renting space to that electric bike store. I know they tried to push something through really quick but failed. I guess they are behind on their plan? It’s too bad it was so hard for them to figure out. All that money wasted too. Oh well.
