Surely people realize that popular, stylish, trendy, fashionable are all different things, though there are degrees of overlap at times. A popular look may or may not be trendy or fashionable, and can be popular either way.

OP, it's funny you posted this. Over the weekend we were out to a trendy restaurant and hung out in the bar before our table was ready. I noticed that probably 1/3 of the women were wearing tall boots over pants (jeans, black jeans, etc.), and I was thinking (per DCUM and a few fashion blogs) that this look was supposed to be "out." But these were women, younger and older, stylish, put together, and tall boots over pants was definitely NOT out in this crowd.
I don't think this look is as out or dated as the fashionistas proclaim it is.
Same experience, except people-watching in both suburban mall and downtown restaurant. Of the 20-something and under crowd, I'd also say about 1/3 were in boots over jean/leggings/some casual-ish pant. Some looked stylish, some just practical.
Also, definitely think that when it gets actually cold around here, no one wants cropped/ankle pants and bootie. It doesn't say fashion, it just screams fashion victim.

Hockey game in that? A plus. Where are the leggings or sweats? The fleece or sweatshirt? The uggs or nikes? Looks like she actually changed after getting out of bed before she went to the game so good job!
