I agree. I prefer "safer streets for everyone."
Sanctimonious Street is quite unsafe
I'll wait for the actual data. This ain't it.
I prefer experience over data. Data can be manipulated as was done throughout the process. I experience the delays on both Seminary and Janneys Lane daily. They were not there before the road diet. To avoid them, I take Howard to Braddock and Quaker back to Trinity, which is fast becoming a cut through. Wait until those rich people start complaining.

This is impacting Dysfunction Junction (Quaker, Braddock, King) already which hasn't had a proper over-hall in 40 years. $10 Million for such magically removed by Mr Jinks a couple of years ago to allow "balancing the budget"!
I have a major beef too with how much of our taxpayer money is spent in the East end of Alexandria City (Old Town, Del Ray) as opposed to the West end (Quaker and West). We need to consider changing our election rules to show equal regional representation. Council Woman Pepper lets her alleged West End constituents down time and time again. Long past time for her to be voted out.
Alexandria City is not being well run by Council and Staff. Don't complain when it affects you and you said nothing!
Agree. pepper has done her duty since 1985 and it is time for her to take Dr Pepper to Goodwin House.
Ouch. Ageism!
No sir or madam. Reality of living with Pepper as our "supposed representative" for decades. She did nothing for my family or community in the "West End".

1200 residents of Alexandria signed a petition for it.
I would like to know if each and every signature was actually an Alexandria resident. There were bike advocacy groups who had nothing to do with Alexandria in the hearings and asking people to come. The Seminary Hill residents did not want this. The fire station and hospital down the street also didn't want this. It's a huge headache, all for some bike lanes to get some federal money. The City Council didn't want this, and then Justin broke the tie. He is just waiting for Beyer to retire and then he is running for his Congressional Seat. Help us!
Every single one was from Alexandria. There were no bike advocacy groups from outside the City at any Council hearing. Many Seminary Hill residents supported it. The Fire dept said it was okay, and the hospital did not object.
There is no federal money involved, its part of the regular repaving budget. 3 council members supported it, 3 opposed. Justin has a vote on the Council also. Thats how the ALX Council works.
NOPE. That’s a lie. The Fire Dept strongly opposed this, they said so publicly, the last chief was removed, and Justin instructed the city manager to pick a new fire chief who would agree with him. Justin has brought a slaughterhouse, scooters, this Seminary nonsense, and more to Alexandria. Every speech now includes how he is Beyers best protege. He has been in more fights than Allison Silberberg ever was because he is a dictator and not as smart as he advertises. I think everybodys had it with him. We sure have.
FWIW - the new chief did not agree either. I was in a meeting a few weeks ago and he said he both misled by staff (not shown all the options) and his words were twisted around because staff cherry plucked one email.
Meanwhile emergency vehicles have moved down the road just fine - using the center turn lane as predicted, with cars staying in their lane or moving slightly into the bike lane.
Maybe someone should ask him AFTER he has seen it work.

Anonymous wrote:I ride the lanes on King Street. Yes only on weekends, because its not on my way to work. Whenever I ride there is see others riding in them. I also regularly see runners using them. I also see more people walking on the sidewalk than I used to, probably because the added buffer makes walkers feel safer. I also find it more pleasant to drive on than it used to be. And I know people who do use it on weekdays.
