While I don't agree with anything the Republicans stand for, I do believe most of them are true patriots. They know Trump is poison, and they're waiting breathlessly for the moment when they can turn on him.
It's going to happen. And the sooner the better -- if he's impeached before Thanksgiving, they have a chance of running someone (NOT Pence) next year.
They could've turned on him whenever they wanted. He's dirty as hell. If they wanted to ruin him they could've. They didn't think they needed to. And then, they never thought he'd win.
Supporting him has always been what their constituents wanted. But that may be changing.

He told a reporter that he would accept dirt of on a political rival from a foreign country. So why are we shocked that he does it? He says his base would be with him if he shot a guy on 5th Avenue - so why are we are we surprised when he does the political equivalent and expects his support to hold. He told us he likes the Chinese system of president for life. Why would we not believe that he would not in a clumsy fashion attempt to bring this about here? This is also why I don’t actually think he will get us into a war with Iran or anyone else proactively- he has told us he doesn’t have a neocon bent
But “sophisticated” Trump voters tell us to ignore his words and focus on what his presidency accomplishes. Well, you can’t ignore his word - it is who he is. He is open about it. And until the American voter stands up and says “that is not who I want as president”, he will continue doing these types of things. And the elected republicans will go along with it because they believe that is what their voters want. I would like to think I would be different if the tables were turned and Trump were a democratic president who was enacting health care reform and was an abhorrent human being. But given the polarization of the country, I am not sure how I would respond. How long would I defend the indefensible? I don’t know but I think I am going to find out by watching my republican friends.
Very true. Just imagine if we had a non-impulsive Trump who could actually hide his misdeeds. He would never, ever be brought to justice, unlike this one.
So, thank god for Trump's stupidity. Kind of a scary thought.
I will also add, this is a person who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, like when he started to blab about all the high tech security they were using at the border and wanted to tell the public about it, to which a border security agent stated, no, we don't want to share that. What a dummy. He's got no filter. I can see him pressuring Ukraine. As the PP so succinctly put it, he's already stated he'd take dirt on people from foreign powers. You Trumpsters seem to believe everything he says, but now suddenly, you don't believe something that came out of his own mouth. You guys are dummies, too, for ignoring the glaringly obvious warning signs that were there from the start.

I say this as someone who did not vote for Trump and would not vote for him. Apparently, the Democrats want to fast track the impeachment decision and hold a vote by the end of October with hearings to be completed by then so that it does not interfere with the primaries that will start in January.
Given that there are less than 15 months to the next election, that is the vehicle to replace Trump.

They needed something strong to go on. The Mueller report was just too ambiguous. You could reasonably come to the conclusion that the president was an unwitting patsy. This new one is different. It shows he’s in it up to his neck.

Anonymous wrote:They will not turn on him until more than 50% of the voters in their states/districts favor impeachment. Because of decades of gerrymandering, it is the true believers in the primaries who control the choice of candidate---not the general electorate. Trump's base are those true believers and they receive their news predominantly from Fox and are almost cult-like about Trump.

But they won't, so they will circle the wagon and then the whole wagon will sink.
Profiles in courage indeed.
I said this already today but they care about their own asses. Not country of course. And not even party. They care about reelection and that is all.
Impeachment is going to continue to get more popular. At some point 17 spineless GOP Senators will feel that their state may be enough for impeachment that they'll vote to convict.
