All of them USed to work at a doggy daycare/trainer and in a shelter, and I love them all.

But if I had to pick Goldens, Labs, and the Pyrenees are my favorites. All intelligent love bugs, and good with families/kids. Goldens and Labs are easier to train.

Border Collies- it will be like having another adult living with you. Smart, loyal, affectionate, the females are very emotional and interactive, but they need a lot of energy release.

The best? That mutt mixed breed in the kennel near you, or in a kill shelter ready to be euthanized in an hour and then placed in a large plastic bag outside the pen while they bring in the next victim. He/she will be your best friend for as long as they live....I promise. Do that. Today.

* There are a ton of coonhounds in kill shelters right now, BTW. Hunters abandon them all over the south and they are picked up.



aww this post makes me miss my beloved coonhound. She passed away about a year and a half ago. She was such a sweet dog and had tons of funny quirks. Her life before she came to me must not have been easy. Most of her tail was missing and she had scars on her face but that didn’t stop her from being so loving.

Now I have a little pit bull mutt and she is the most family-oriented, polite, easy-going dog I have ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with. She is scared of rain (not thunder! Just rain!) The best dogs really do come from shelters.

Greyhounds! Somehow simultaneously really independent and loving. Both of the hounds we’ve had have been pretty funny too and an awesome mix of ready to play and super lazy.

We recently got a golden puppy. we didn't realize how much they nip, seems more than a typical puppy. he is beautiful and smart, looking forward to the phase passing.


How long have you had him? We’ve had two Golden’s and the nippy phase was extremely short. Are you training him not to nip? If you need suggestions, start a new thread and I’ll give some suggestions. Golden’s are ridiculously easy to train so you should be able to get him to cut this out quickly.

So affectionate and funny and happy. More of a lap dog. But we dote on our’s. Have loved all my other dogs (different breeds) but this one most. Not a dog for running or long walks etc though. A house dog with walks where she dawdles.

SIX pages and not one mention of the English Bulldog!?

English Bulldogs are BY FAR the goofiest (personality) dogs on the planet. Mine is, anyway. They are total love bugs, and they do love to be lazy, which is great for those times you don't want to move out of bed.

OK, OK... They are super greedy; plus they shed, smell, and drool terribly. Otherwise, they're darn near perfect.

The shedding sucks but they're so worth it. We'll never have anything else (we're on rescue lab number 4).
