When a company starts manipulating results, they have crossed the line into opinion media and should be broken up/regulated. Warren is right in this regard.
Google is operating as an un-registered lobbyist.
#BreakUpGoogle
Google has its own lobbying arm already. It's why they have a presence in DC. It's no different than the NRA or farmers when it comes to lobbying.
Also, there are a lot of bogus articles and "fake" searches that cause certain websites to appear at the top of the search engine, ie manipulating results. Google tries to remove those in their algorithm but of course, aren't always successful. This is the "resources" that the employee was also referring to. You need a pretty powerful algorithm/machine to make sure the results aren't manipulated.
I always tell my children to not believe everything they google. Adults should do the same. Google search is a great tool, but people really need to look at it with their eyes wide open.
Or, you could always use a different search engine.
I already do
Google admitted they are deliberately altering search results. She said it straight out and why. Good Lord
If google knows that people are deliberately trying to manipulate search results or putting out "fake news" why wouldn't they try to fight against it?
Glad you are using a different search engine. Then no worries. If Trumpsters really believe that Google is evil then why do they keep using their products? There are alternatives you know.
I don't like walmart, so I don't go to their stores because there are alternatives. Trump told Americans to boycott Harley Davidson, so Trumpsters did. See how that works? You can boycott Google.
Are you dense? Google themselves are doing this. As policy. Not ‘people ‘.
Google is doing this because they know people are trying to manipulate the results. I have stated this numerous times already. You are clearly the dense one, and you have no clue how search algorithms work, do you. Are you a Trump supporter by chance?

– Specific examples of “accomplished Google bombs” show that the public is able to manipulate search results.

At the same time, politically motivated third parties including the “alt-right”, a far-right movement in the US, use a variety of techniques to trick the algorithm and push propaganda and misinformation higher up Google’s search rankings.
The Russians are good at this, and this type of thing is what Google is trying to fight with the enormous resources they have. First learn how the algorithms work, then respond. This is like watching Google's testimony in front of politicians who have zero clue about high tech.
PP again. I have an advanced degree in CS. Yes, I know how algorithms work and after reading the documents, understand exactly how google is manipulating the search engines. I understand it on a technical level, on a business level and on a political level.
The google exec admitted that she said what she did - on video by the way - that they are deliberately manipulating the search engines to prevent another 2016, i.e. to prevent Trump being re-elected. She further stated that they should not be broken up, as Warren wants, because smaller companies cannot achieve the goal of manipulating the election like they can. She said NOTHING about Russians or the alt-right. She SPECIFICALLY named Donald Trump.
FYI, if you actually read the documents you would see decision trees. Don't be a fool. The employees at Google are ringing alarm bells, just like Pinterest employees. More and more will come forward - safety in numbers.
