I find it really telling that many of you assume that all refugees are ignorant, uneducated women who have zero rights. Not all women from those countries have no agency. That is a gross assumption.
No, idiot, it is not a "gross assumption." I've lived in several of those countries, and yes, the majority of women in the societies from which the US receives the most refugees ARE uneducated and with very little rights. I am embarrassed for you, but I also doubt there is any hope for you to really understand how the greater world works at this point. God. Just take your privilege and idiocy and go get a manicure or something, OP. You should probably keep your mouth shut on topics you don't understand in the future to avoid embarrassing yourself further.
OP here - I asked a legitimate question, I'm not embarrassed about it. I'm embarrassed that you seem to not be able to have a rational conversation about things. I would check that anger.
Work on your IQ first. You asked a very dumb question and got rightfully called out on it.
It's an honest question, and I got honest answers ... unsurprisingly, not everyone agrees. You should check your white privilege that allows you to think that just because you lived abroad you know everything. Still waiting on the source that says the majority of women refugees are uneducated. Please do share.
Who said I'm white, you nitwit? You really are embarrassing yourself.
OP, the majority of posters on this thread are embarrassed for you.
And of course you are white.
I’m the OP. I am not the one that said “who said I’m white, you nitwit?” That’s the “researcher” who can’t offer sources to back up her claim.
I’m actually from a third world country, a place that this name-caller would probably erroneously deem has mostly uneducated women who have no rights.
I'm even more embarrassed for you, OP. I'm the person who said I'm not white and I was born and raised in India. I am familiar with the circumstances that lead people to have children they cannot adequately provide for. You must have lived in a very privilege bubble in your home country.

To be fair to the PP, you sure do sound white.

New poster here and OP's question is anything but dumb. It's actually incredibly complex and interesting.
I work entirely with the Medicaid population in DC and to call this question "dumb" is fairly insulting to the poor.
It's actually pretty darn interesting and complex to understand why people without resources and/or in crisis do what they do in terms of having children
and a million other decisions that may not be in their best interest.
So sum it up for us ms medicaid. Inquiring minds want to know.
dp it's already been said
poor people want to be loved and they think having a baby will add love to their lives. They are too dumb/simple to think about facts like I can barely take care of myself how am I going to take care of myself and a baby.

Anonymous wrote:Have you ever had to flee? Been in a crisis-impacted setting? How would you get birth control when 1) the health clinics are destroyed, 2) the roads to get to the clinics can't be accessed, 3) birth control supplies can't be delivered to the clinics. I've spent plenty of time in refugee camps as a public health professional. This is the reality.
You need to educate yourself and break out of your over-privileged, judgmental bubble
