Others clubs, both weaker ECNL/DA clubs and independent clubs will suffer. McLean's 05 time was a disaster last year, finishing at or near the bottom of it ECNL division. They lost a group of players to WS VA and maybe Arlington yet the team picked up several strong players from independent clubs and is now a #2 seed in the ECNL playoffs while also wining the August Cup and finishing as runner-up to the top bracket at JeffCup. FCV 05 picked up some strong players from independent clubs. Those players also had access to WS VA yet selected FCV. I also know players leaving clubs like Bethesda for McLean.
I agree that dilution is real but McLean and FCV in their current respective forms will still offer more than other ECNL/DA programs, i.e. they will get the best of those looking for elite soccer.

No other DMV clubs come close except for Pipeline, which has several of its teams competing in the US Youth Soccer regionals.

Yes, teams formed 4 years ago pre DA.
Establishment of the girls DA does not undermine the quality of these teams. FCV dominates in the DA, while McLean continues strong in ECNL.

Ugh, someone doesn't know.
Bobby is awesome

Exactly. You would think that since these people can do confidently read the future, they would be much too successful to be wasting their time on these forums.
Unfortunately for them, the opposite is likely true - they are bitter envious and in denial.
When tryout numbers for FCV ECNL were in the 70's at rising U13 3-5 years ago and they drop to TEN outside players for the current rising U13's that is not a prediction. That is an outcome.
It isn't sour grapes to say that the landscape moving forward is diluted with 7 elite soccer showcase options in NoVA. There is simply less of a need to seek out an environment where your player can play in a college showcase environment.
Let me put it this way. There are no longer ANY destination clubs in NoVA. Every club now has a pathway and no club is special anymore, not FCV, not McLean, not BRYC.
if you ignore the quality of the training and interest in HS soccer. If you are into HS soccer, McLean just has the best track record and the proven coaches. If you are an elite player at u14 or u15, you can either role the dice with VDA or Loudoun or go with a proven group at McLean (BRYC does not have the numbers). If you don't care about HS, FCV is the proven leader. Time will tell but my money is on FCV and Mclean.

Agree. This was discussed at length in another thread. Some folks just hate the guy/gal at the top. Make judgement based on rumors or misinformation. Of course, there are those that THINK FCV or McLean treated them poorly because their kid got cut or coach didn't pay enough attention...
Move along to another club if you don't like the coach or if the parent wants to interfere...
Until some other club in the local area steps up and knocks down the champs, it's all just talk!
It is and always will be about the players. FCV and McLean have always had their pick of the best 40 players in NoVA per age group. That is no longer the case, they now have to compete for the top players more than ever before. MANY top players are just not bothering to leave their club now that their club has a pathway.
5 years ago both clubs had the top 40 players. Going forward they are lucky if they will get 20 of the top 40 players in NoVA per age group.
I agree with most of this, except even in years past those two clubs did not have the top 40 players. For example, the best 03 player in the area is S Montgomery from BRYC and she is a YNT player. Neither FCV or McLean have any 03s at her level.
Lol. Pretty cocky. Is she even top 5 on her own team? Come on dad, don’t embarrass your daughter on here.
What happened to this player's dad? I wanted to hear him break down the best 03 players in the area for us.
LOL. I am definitely not her Dad or I would know she is not YNT. I read a recent TDS article that talked about her being one of the top 5 U16 players and saying she will be called up soon. She is just one example of top local players that are not at FCV and McLean. You need more examples? Do you track youth soccer outside of your club? Does not sound like it.
Of course there are good players and teams outside of the DA. That BRYC team being one of them. But quoting a TDS article? Sounds like you need to educate yourself on what TDS is all about. Hint: it is primarily PR by parents and coaches of their own players.
Give me a break. You think TDS is PR by parents? Sounds like sour grapes. The top kids they track make it into top D1 programs and YNT camps. So the key to playing college soccer is PR? LOL
