Why wouldn't you tell her, just nibble on the kids party food and we'll get some nice carryout afterwards, and relax with a glass of wine? Why so rigid?
True, but by the same point, daughter is being rigid by not providing something other than hot dogs and mac and cheese. I just went to a toddler party in the park this weekend, and it was mac and cheese and cut up fruit and cut up vegetables. That's a far healthier menu that's more likely to please a wider set of palates.

Anonymous wrote:This is not a big deal. "Mom, please bring salad, stop on the way and buy it for you and it would be great if you wanted to bring it for the rest of the adults too." Is she staying the night? If she is, I would definitely be a god host that had food for her mom to eat for that day. I also become sick after eating hotdogs, always have. Throwing up and similar. Those things are nasty, but I have a similar reaction to commercial sausages. I wonder why? Is it garlic or what... Might research that. I can't eat shade plants.

Agree. I haven't eaten a hot dog since middle school, when my science teacher told our class what they were made of.
Is it that hard to grab some fruit or salad or wait two hours to get home and eat?
Is there no store in OPs town? Grandma can’t pack something she likes?
The food preferences and trying to accommodate everyone is one reason I hate entertaining anymore. If grandma is coming to a four year old party, she can deal with the menu or decline coming.

It doesn't matter as long as the birthday child likes it. When it's your birthday, you can decide the menu.
Right, of course. Welcome to dcum, where 4 year olds call the shots.
No...the mom is calling the shots by being fine with birthday kid preference. See how that works?
It’s one meal. It’s a kid’s birthday party. It’s fine. Really.

No, not at all. But I'd be a little disappointed if my daughters didn't try to make ALL their guests comfortable and happy. If you're serving food, you serve food for ALL. Not just some. ESPECIALLY when someone is coming in from out of town.
