Subject: Catholics: How do you still justify going to church or being a part of the church?
I “justify” it because I don’t believe the entire Church is rotten. Just as there have been bad leaders, there are also very very good leaders who have done very very good things. I know priests and nuns desperately working to regain the trust that those before them violated. I will not blame them and will give them a chance to rebuild. As PP said, I believe my Church has been passed down from Jesus and that faith is unshakable, even in the face of evil.

Do you send your children to public school? Do you support public schools with your taxes? Because there are so many more convicted molesters in public schools. So many more cover-ups in public schools. There's just not as much press about it because, well, that's a matter of opinion.

We recognize that humans are broken but Jesus is perfect. So humans are going to run the church in a broken manner. That shouldn't surprise anyone. But Jesus told us how to worship Him and we believe that is through the Catholic Church.

Not the same, because you can leave the church without physically moving and still work to change it.
Also, not a good comparison because you can't vote against racist policies, etc, if you're no longer a citizen.

I was going to recommend Eastern Orthodox for lapsed Catholics. I was born Orthodox. My dad converted. He had issues with the Catholic Church but felt better in the Orthodox Church.

If you're still checking this post, OP, I'm very sorry for your pain. I grew up Catholic and was very committed to the church and almost became a nun. because some of them think that Trump was sent by God. Others are hoping for a reversal in politics, and others are just stuck.

We tend to see God as a generator of humanitarian aid: "God gives us more health, more success, and a raise!...." We come to the temple to receive something in it. You con't have to be a catholic cleric to abuse children -- but it helps.

Difference is when those other institutions get caught there are consequences.
