It appears Whitman's numbers are better than McLean or Langley's.

Always
Polaris proved it.

They would beat all top FCPS schools except TJ. Because the top 450 kids from Langley, McLean, etc. are at TJ.

Some commenters are talking about "connections". Could they elaborate what they mean by that and how "connections" help secure admission to highly selective colleges? If it is a job, then I understand how connections could help in locating job openings, having the right eyes look at the resume, and even get the job offer after an interview that is essentially a meet and greet.

well, yeah, because there aren't many traditional public high schools nationwide with comparable affluence, legacies, connections, etc. to Whitman.

No, it's not at all. Find me another school with these stats in 2019.

They're also better than all the area Catholics and just as good as stats from the Big3 privates.

Why wouldn't other kids in this area do as well as Whitman kids?

You need to be wealthy enough to ED and have a lot of legacy parents to make this happen.

Whitman highschool curriculum, faculty or staff had nothing to do with these results.

Huh?

It's parents and their connections that get these results. Move the kids to different schools, they'd still get into the same schools.

Scarsdale High has almost 100 fewer grads than Whitman and got 28 into the Ivies last year plus 9 into Wash U and six each into Duke and Vandy. Now THAT’S impressive.

Hey, that's great. Now go find 20 other public schools to prove PP wrong.

I don’t have the time. But I’m sure they exist. Hers is just typical DCUM insular thinking.

I'm a Whitman parent and I'm also sure there are significantly more than 20 other non-magnet public schools with similar or better results. People here seem familiar with the top affluent public schools in NY and NJ, but there are others in most major cities. Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Evanston, and lots of other non mid-atlantic or northeast east schools have schools with impressive results year after year. It will be interesting to see how Churchill, BCC, and Wilson did this year as well.

Best bet is to look at states with smart kids but so-so flagships: CT, IL, MD, NJ, NY.
