I agree there are huge problems with the treatment of minorities in the legal system, this woman essentially stole tuition by sending her child to a different school district. I think 10 days is completely appropriate. It's a completely different issue than what Felicity Huffman did and I don't think they can be compared.

That seems to be lost on the PP that brought this up. That and the actual facts of the case. But sensational headlines are better to post.

Woah, where is this? I thought usually that is fine not jail time!

You thought wrong. African-American single mother living in public housing used her father’s address, where they sometimes stayed. “After a seven-day jury trial, Kelley Williams-Bolar was found guilty of two third-degree felonies — with a sentence of five years in prison each.”

That's awful! That poor woman!

People bring this up a lot and I agree there's a huge discrepancy in how minorities are treated by the system. THAT SAID, Kelly WIlliams-Bolar was only found GUILTY of the felonies which came up to 5 years in prison. In effect she was sentenced to only 10 days in jail.

She was sentenced last week to 10 days in county jail and put on three years of probation.

She will also be required to perform community service, the Beacon Journal reported.

10 days in jail is still unfair. Yes it is illegal, but this mom wanted a better school for her kid. Community service for a low income, single mom who likely can't miss work or worse, may be fired over this? Her father is a resident in the school district, they could have worked out a plan to accommodate this child. No comparison to what wealthy celebrities did.

I never said it was fair or unfair. Just pointing out the facts and there's a huge discrepancy between 5 years and 10 days in jail (she actually got out in 9 for good behavior).
