No different than me being contacted by recruiters in my field on a weekly basis. Greener pastures etc. Anyone has a right to ask your nanny if she wants to work for them, just as she has the right to say yes or no.

If they kept asking over and over, that would be inappropriate, but only to the extent she is clear. If she said, not this time then absolutely they should be asking again. If she was clear that she is not interested, I doubt they would.

Wtf. You don't own this babysitter. Have you seen The Help? Are you planning on leaving her to your kids in your will?

Nothing worse than a cheap, wannabe mooch. They fawn all over someone else’s employee and then treat them like crap when they finally get them.

You don't own your nanny and your neighbor has every right to ask her if she would like to babysit. She also has the right to ask her. If she wants to work for her full time and offer her $10 more an hour.

I think there is nothing wrong with once -- once! -- telling someone you are contracting with that oh, by the way, there is a rather odd neighbor who tends to approach people I hire and say I recommended you. And then let it go. Let people form their own opinions and make their own decisions. You will have taken care of the only part that is your purview, which is your own reputation that was being misused.
