Why don't you just name your child Spanky, Buckwheat, Stymie, Porky, Froggy, or Alfalfa? Those are nicknames.

I can't stand it when people give their children nicknames for their real names. No matter how much you protest, in MY mind, it screams, "Not educated."

I grew up w a similar-style nickname of a more formal name, and then through school (over time) ended up being regularly addressed by more formal name. My husband, upon hearing my family's nickname for me, grew to using that/original nickname for me too, so the nickname is now standard among his close friends and family (and continues as it always has w my family), and professionally my more formal name stands... would not want to be called by my nickname at work, glad to have two versions of same name; equally glad my family and husband use my nickname all of their own accord...

How long is your last name?

With a short last name, I like a longer middle name with Molly (e.g. Alexandra, Susannah, Victoria, Josephine, Elizabeth). With a long last name, I like something shorter (e.g. Claire, Elise, Frances).

My great grandma was named Molly. Born in Russia but that was her proper name. After she died, my cousin was named Molly after her. Also proper name. We also have a grandpa Jack, proper name, though I read on here that it’s not one. In some places and/or religions, it is. And it’s OK.
