The doors on those play places scare me - I'd rather be the one who opens the door than watch as a kid's fingers get shut in it.

Did it bug you enough for you get to get out of your seat and go open the door? If not, why would you expect anyone else to get out of their seat to open the door?

Also, if the kids aren't old enough to open the door on their own, I'm not letting them in or out because I don't know what their parents are doing.

If I had to get out of my seat to open the door, no.

And no anyway because I have no idea if the parents want the kid to go into the play area or not. I don't feel like getting yelled at by some parent.

I originally said I wouldn’t help because I’m helping my own kids eat without fighting over the milkshake or dumping sauce everywhere.

But the more I read these response, I would not help because I wouldn’t release kids to go who knows where. If the parent is there to meet them, the parent should open the door. I am also not paying attention to watch that the kid goes back to the correct table. So I wouldn’t open the door for the same reason I wouldn’t open the door at a play space and let a child run into the open non-play area or out to the parking lot - the parent should decide if the kid should run loose or not.
