I have always been a big reader and already knew the ending when our 1st or 2nd grade teacher read it to the class. I remember at the end all the kids were crying, but I knew what was coming. I wanted to cry with the others so I was poking my eyeball LOL.

Me Before You. It had me sobbing at the end and I think of myself as very cold-hearted and jaded.

I agree with a lot the other books already listed but I think Marley and Me is the one that made me cry the most. And I'm not even a dog person. The movie makes me cry every time too.

I think the end makes me think of the day my parents called me to tell me they put our dog down (we got her when I was 9 and was probably 22 when she died). I wasn't even so much sad for me but my parents were so heart broken. It was so hard to hear the pain in their voices. That movie just takes me back to that moment.

NP. I read that book too and while it was horrible what happened to him, it didn't have such a lasting impact on me. Maybe because I've seen similar situations myself firsthand.

I wouldn’t say the saddest ever but I’ve read the Harry Potter series 5 times now and the deaths of Dumbledore, Dobby and Fred get me every time.
