How many 6th or 8th graders going to GDS, Sidwell, or Cathedral schools next year?
Just a handful
Looking at the 2018 outplacement from their publication, I’m not impressed. Of 34 students, 1 each to sidwell, NCS and St A and 2 to GDS. 1 student to Exeter, which I’ll venture is harder to get into than Big 3. So 6 of 34 8th graders at the very top. That’s worriesome. I would really like to see how 2019 has shaped up.
2018 results:
Sidwell: 1
NCS/STA: 2
Exeter: 1
GDS: 2
Maret: 3
Potomac: 2
Bullis: 4
Landon: 4
Prep: 1
Visi: 1
Madeira: 1
Holy Child: 3
Burke: 1
Episcopal: 1
Westminster ?: 1
Berkshire ?: 1
St Andrews (Delaware):1
Field:1

Is this a vocal minority, and the majority are happy with the school? I would have to assume so, given how many people still want to be there, right?
There are many many social climbers in this town. The people who are clambering to get their kids are those who wish to be associated with the "elite." Keep in mind, this is true of most of the private schools in the area, but it is definitely true about St. Patrick's.
But neither St Pat’s or Chevy are considered elite so that doesn’t really make sense.
Not a Chevy Chase club member or a St Patrick’s parent (yet- we’re accepted and considering), but isn’t that club one of the most elite in the region? I will never be a country club member as I’m middle class and don’t golf, but heck, even I’ve heard of that club as one of the most elite.
It’s not elite. It has become a magnet for the republican crowd and in recent years a lot of social climbers have joined. Congressional is by far the most elite club in the area followed by Columbia.
Congressional will let anyone in who can pay the fees. It’s the least elite of the three. The order is Chevy, Columbia then Congressional. And generally, St Pat’s (along with Beauvoir and NPS) are more desirable among the country club set than schools like GDS.

Actually, I completely agree. I was very impressed. Everyone seemed very nice. Tough decisions ahead! Good luck!
