I still don't consider lying about your ethnicity that big of a deal. I know a guy who is 1/16 Am. Indian. Dude looks 100% white - light hair, blue eyes. I'm Asian, and I look more Indian American than he does, but he can claim it and I really don't care, just like I really don't care that Warren lied about her ethnicity 40 years ago. I'm also not liberal.

Northam did what is considered a racist act in order to imitate a famous singer/dancer. Was it wrong? Sure it was. He probably thought he was showing some type of respect to Michael Jackson, because, it was after all, a dance contest. He wasn't doing it to mock. He was doing it because Jackson is known for being a great dancer. It was one incident at one point in time.
Warren lied. Her race is not American Indian, and she knew that then as she knows that now. She was using minority status to her advantage. And, she continued with the lie.
So, yes, this is worse. Because she knew it was wrong and it continued over a period of time.

THIS. The question was, what race are you? And her answer was flatly: American Indian. That takes an incredible amount of nerve.

At this point, she would be criticized if she put Caucasian and criticized if she put American Indian. Too bad writing in more than one thing wasn't really a thing back then.

As we saw on this thread, someone was saying that they wanted to see Native American on her other legal documents, including on her birth certificate, if she really believed it.

Basically, she can't win, even though she has apologized to the Cherokee Nation. People will always be angry about it (although I am not sure how many who will always be angry about it are actually members of the Cherokee nation.)
