Omg...so it's ok for high schoolers and middle schoolers to crash and kill themselves?? Schools will already be in session by 9:45
Child care can certainly can be delayed, but 10:30 is four hours delayed.
Middle schoolers don't drive.
Most of high schoolers don't drive.
Most high schoolers don't have their own cars (I mean do any of them work a job - who pays for the car, gas, insurance, etc...) So to me that means if they have a car, they are entitled.
Even if they do drive AND have their own car, they don't have to drive. A parent can or they can take their free county-provided school bus.
The people providing cheap daycare to parents who overwork to provide someone else to watch their kids, should not be obligated to get up at 6am in sub zero temps and drive on icy roads so you can wake your kids up and drop them off for hours before school starts. Especially not for the pennies they get paid.

The NWS has issued a wind advisory in effect for the District of Columbia from 9 am to 6 pm Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
* TIMING...Mid-morning through late afternoon Wednesday.
* WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* IMPACTS...Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...A Wind Advisory means that winds of 45 to 55 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
I wonder if MCPS will factor the winds into their decision to close

Well, coming from a location abroad that doesn't have this kind of weather, I can understand why winter here is tricky: the County won't waste their money on large winter operations like they have up north, which is financially understandable, yet we do have a few winter events every year. This leaves parents holding the bag, as usual. On top of all the nationwide lack of child-centric policies, such as no maternity/paternity leave, no subsidized daycare, etc, they're expected to have back-up care for their children! It's not right.
People are not supposed to be even more stressed out and penalized just because they decided to raise the next generation of Americans.
