Gave up FT work from 34-42 while we raised 3 kids born in 5 years, chased hers from DC to SF, to Seattle with long trips or short postings (depending on perspective) all over South East Asia and Africa.
Her career exploded and she's now a SME in an extremely desirable filed.
All my opportunities vanished because I was on the sideline. Started out in a whole new field but did so at 44 so probably going nowhere.

+1. I assume you are a man. The work force has no tolerance for men who take time off to raise children. Not much for women either, I know, but even much less for men
