And citing admitted students doesn't help anything, as the fact that some kids may use the school as a safety doesn't help. It does seem to be growing somewhat less selective based solely on admit rates.
None of this means Oberlin is not a great education. But they may be worth further exploration.
Can you link to the CDS you are citing? The one I looked at http://www2.oberlin.edu/instres/irhome/www/cds/cds_explain.html didn't seem to have any ACT numbers, although I may have missed them.
Also, if you are trying to claim going from 28-33 to 29-31 is a drop when talking about 800 students in a one-year sample, well that is statistically unsound. You could just as easily say they are better because there are fewer at the bottom.
Please also don't forget these statistics are being discussed in the context of the claim that Oberlin is somehow less desirable because of the political activities of some of its students. That dog don't hunt.

Its really sad that the forum can't be a place for parents to get information. SO many parents inflate or deflate information based on schools without facts and so many parents offer statements/opinions based on 1990s information. then when they are called on it they respond with who cares. its all very deceitful. Just admit you like the school because you do.

I know I'm generalizing here, and may just plain be partly wrong.
My feeling is that NYU still has a reputation for being a school for unserious trust fund babies. But, if it's so hard to get into, maybe getting good grades there is pretty hard.
If a student might have to work hard to get good grades at an expensive school with an iffy academic reputation, maybe the student would be better off at a different school.
Example: If what your son likes about NYU is the idea of going to a private school in the middle of New York, how about the New School? It looks as if the average SAT score for the New School is about 1200.
If your son is more business-oriented, PACE University has an average SAT score of about 1100, and it has a campus right by City Hall in New York.
NYU had 75,000 applicants for the class of 2018 and a 19% acceptance rate. The median SAT was 1440 and the typical student had an A/A- average. Some posters have dated information. Getting into NYU has gotten significantly harder over the last 5 years.
Wow. I went to NYU years ago, class of 1993; there were many bright kids, but also many who weren’t particularly studious or intellectual; I think it’s gotten much harder to get in since I was there.

In 1990 it was #9, but that is irrelevant because they only ranked 25 schools back then and left out many top schools like Harvey Mudd, the service academies, and others. The stats posted shows they have been very consistent over the last 20 years. A ranking that has ranged from 10-30 in a ranking of hundreds of LACs is hardly a plummet to any but the most ideologically poisoned. As a poster (incorrectly) said above, "those are the facts".
Also, rankings don't matter.
