OP is probably that crazy woman who makes up stories to post just to see how many pages of comments she can get. It's her warped hobby. Five pages isn't that much compared to some of her other work.

Presumably, they didn't call as soon as they realized he was missing. They probably spent a fair amount of time looking for him first, since wasting time to call a parent in that situation wouldn't be a priority.

By doing what she did, and taking the focus of the adults off the students, OP put every child on that trip in jeopardy. I hope the school called the police on her.

Regardless of whether the situation was as bad as she describes, what OP did was horrible.

OP can you update? What did you say to the teacher when she called you- did you admit to "testing" them? What's the aftermath been?

Agree. The inexcusable part of OP’s story is her own behavior. She caused the teacher and other chaperones enormous distress, undoubtedly damaged the experience for the other kids, and deprived her own kid of the experience! That she was able to co-opt her MIL to join her in this insanity tells me that OP’s poor kid may not have any chance at a normal childhood.

Last year for K, before a field trip to the Postal Museum, our teacher actually said, "Please do not remove your child or other children in your group from the building." It would have never occurred to me to do something like that, but obviously she said it for a reason.

I recently went on a first grade field trip and the teacher gave us specific instructions and her cell number. But even then we had to wait a few times while one parent took selfies with her kid before leaving school, before leaving the bus, etc. So it is hit or miss I think. Personally I like going on field trips to get to know the other kids in my son's class. And I've got no problem discipling other kids...I worked as a teacher for a while. Like on the bus when the kid in front of me is lying on the floor of the bus, I say "Hey Larlo, sit properly or I'll send you up to Miss Smith." Of course he was in the group with selfie mom, who was sitting in front of them, seriously taking more selfies on the bus with her kid.
