What about moms that are taking care of infants and toddlers? They are doing plenty all day.

I am a married woman with a young child. I definitely want to work and take pride in my career. If I could do so without financial burden on my family or negative impact on my career, I would work part-time, but otherwise, I’m happy with my work situation.

There is very little societal support for working mothers. No maternity leave, scarce expensive childcare, no limits on hours employers can extract from employees.

It is a wonder that anyone has children.

Exactly. Like, with teenagers? What do you do all day? I’m sorry, but yeah, I’d feel useless. “Let me clean the toilets for the third time this week and read People until it’s time for Johnny’s soccer game at 4PM.” What are you contributing to the world? And don’t say “raising good kids” because plenty of working women do that. I just don’t understand why if you have an education and a skill set, you’d choose to sit home. It’s lazy. I could never be with a stay at home dad because the lack of ambition would kill any attraction.

I wanted to work when my first child was born but it didn't make financial sense since I was an apparel designer (college major) and the pay was lousy. Child care would have eaten up my entire salary. I think I've "earned my keep" by using my design skills to really fix up and sell two homes both at an excellent profit which I consider to be my "earnings". I have a blog and an Instagram account so friends can follow my work and when my children are all in school full time I hope to convert my own projects into a business helping others re-do their homes on the cheap.

Another who feels exactly as the previous poster does and also does not work a corporate job. The stay at home moms cannot imagine anything different because they don’t live in the world of work and are blinded by everything their bank account - sorry husband - says.

Happy to help. I'm a teacher. I went to a regular school and work a regular job. When I get pregnant, I plan to SAH for 1-2 years and then I'll go back to work. It's NBD to us, but then again we don't live in what sounds like the insanely competitive DC area.

And both me and my husband would leave work in a second if we won the lottery.

Since I only have an associate degree from a crappy college and can't find a good job, I started a small business that keeps me afloat. I'm basicallly a sahm or work at home mom
