Which is too bad because if he had gotten out to talk real communities in this county and other MD counties he might have gotten some useful ideas that would have enticed people to vote for him. Instead he is spouting unicorns & rainbows.

Jealous's math is all wrong. He wants to fund it with casino tax revenues. Sounds good, right? Well, what are those revenues going towards now? Other programs. Basically it was a loophole that they essentially redirected casino revenues to the general fund. Now if they put that money towards education instead, what happens to the programs it's currently funding? That's left out of his education plan (I read it.. it's on his website).
Baltimore's unheated schools are a result of their own mismanagement at the local level, not lack of funds. I don't want to pay for their incompetence.

Hogan has been no friend to MoCo schools:
Maryland school rankings by Education Week have dropped every year since Hogan took office
Hogan repeatedly tried to cut funds for public schools but was thwarted by Democratic legislature
State commission reports Maryland schools underfunded by almost $3 billion
Hogan has increased taxpayer funds going to private, rather than public schools
Hogan vetoed a bill to add two teachers and a public school parent to the State Board of Education
But the article should have been filed under general politics.
If the original poster wanted to talk, specifically, about Hogan and schools they should have done so.
In the end, the fish rots from the head.
Hogan has offered 8.5 billion in tax breaks to Amazon, more than any other jurisdiction in the running and one that planning experts have questioned would ever be profitable for the state. If his priority were education, which it is clearly not, he would find the money to reduce class sizes and improve conditions for teachers.
Clearly, you can't read because this forum is specifically about how candidates for governor would affect the outcome for MoCo schools more specifically the Kirwan Commission report. Posters have also discussed the idea of giving everyone free access to community colleges, paying teachers more and free pre-k for all. Where will all this magical funding come from and how will MCPS students be impacted?
Hogan has instituted free or reduced cost community college (hhi < 100k free, hhi < 150k reduced cost). Happened in May. You should be outraged and vote Hogan out.
And he stole the idea from Jealous, it's one of his platform pieces. Free community college is Hogan pandering to democrats. He'll no doubt end it if he's re elected.

Plus, what about the kids on FARMS? How are they going to eat on days they're not in school?
I'm pretty sure they can still eat at school or at a community center near them. Many FARMS kids also receive WIC and food stamps so it's not like they are really starving.
If the school is open to feed FARMS students, how is going to a 4 day week going to save the school system $$?? If the building is open you need custodial staff, heat, staff to supervise/feed children, busses to get them there...

Have you not heard of childcare? I'm sure you could pay a neighbor, a nanny, a college student, KAH or any other daycare provider. Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Great idea. Every Friday will have to be take your child to work day though.

Honestly, MCPS can’t even accommodate the students that is currently has. Our MS has class sizes in the 30s. Our 5th Grade Compacted Math class has 35 kids in one classroom.
There are no extra classrooms where MCPS can accommodate 4 years olds for preK.
Also, we are at a Title 1 school and see the kids who have gone through the current Head Start program. It’s great in theory, but the kids are still behind in K-2nd grade. It certainly doesn’t seem to be a good ROI.
Make class sizes smaller and MCPS more efficient and then I can get behind Universal preK.
