ok, tell me how/why?By far the best girls youth coach in the area. Nationally known. A wonderful guy. One of the nicest guys you can have the privilege of meeting.
Most every college coach has him in their iPhone or Android, and they implicitly trust what he has to say. I've known of some college coaches who cannot attend a tournament and they ask Clyde to watch a game during his break between the games involving his own teams so they can get Clyde's impressions of a player from some other club.
that’s not a good follow-up as to how he is the best coach. That’s a recruiting and evaluation of talent spotting.
If you have the opportunity to have your daughter play for him, grab it!What other girls youth coach in the area (or anywhere) coached Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach and Homare Sawa? The latter two were FIFA women's world players of the year, and Mia won a ton of world and national awards.
aaand there is the pitch for recruitment. FOMO at it’s best.
Please provide some more specifics as to how he’s different now that McLean isnt one of two of the only ECNL clubs in town?
After reading this whole thread, I've learned two things about Mclean:
1 - If you are a U-little, avoid Mclean like the plague because there is a really bad coach there messing up the girls program for a lot of people; and
2 - If you are U13 or above ECNL player, then other then 2006 squad, consider ID'ing for one of these other teams if you can get Clyde Watson.
Like PP, I am interested in #2 given that there are several ECNL and Academy teams nearby. Does Clyde have better coaching skills then his peers, or does he just have the best network to get placed? I understand the recruitment pitch for him, but what is different in the training?

His approach works for many girls and he is a good trainer but how does he compare to the other coaches inside of and outside of McLean. I get the sense that Clyde develops the players and then moves them up to other coaches as they get older.

Not sure what age groups Clyde coaches now, but he has coached several high school aged girls teams to national championships, he coached the Washington Freedom back in the hey day before the women's league went defunct and reincarnated to what it is now, coached boys teams before that, and has been honored as national youth coach of the year. Clyde was a great player at Clemson way back when--he played for the great Dr. I. M. Ibrahim and won a ton of ACC titles and possibly a natty. He was on the famous Clemson team that had Big Clyde and Little Clyde--he was the latter. The guy just really knows soccer. He is thoughtful, and always prepared. His training sessions are purposeful and players are always engaged. Soccer is the guy's life, in addition to his wonderful spouse and his kids. He just really knows soccer, and has been able to educate, prepare and motivate thousands of players over the years. Maybe six or seven years ago, the NCAA women's final four had at least one of his former players on each team. That's remarkable. There is a lot that sets Clyde apart.

Update: the 06s won too.
Now 1-7-0 with 3 goals scored and 32 let in. 10th place. Geez

Did McLean lose 06 players or is that just a random gap year where recruitment didn't go well?
Several either went to the Arlington or W. Spirit DAs. Their 12U coach blacklisted and mistreated 11 year old girls and that group has always been messed up. Their performance this year is a direct result of a messed up roster merge of those A and B teams and coaches who hated each other. Open secret in McLean. The coach got promoted as a result. Go figure.
I hear what the other poster said about disgruntled parents and I hear that. However, most of the time, there is some truth to the complaints. What did the coach do that qualified as "mistreatment"? Was it what he said? Was he punitive? No club is perfect. None. Some are worse than others. I'd just appreciate hearing about the "open secrets", if the poster isn't afraid to post about it? And if some parents do feel they were retaliated against, what happened? If you don't mind posting here. I know speaking out can be dangerous, as they sort of control the future of your child for at least the year.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:McLean is a very good club with a strong history. Clearly, some posters are upset with a particular coach over something specific. I get it. It bothered them enough that they felt the need to leave. Not the first time a situation has come up like that, nor will it be the last.
But the club is much bigger than that. Many players have been and will be continue to be developed by them. I encourage people to get to know the club and not worry about the drama being posted on some anonymous board by who knows what with clearly a personal agenda.
Why do you keep posting here if you claim all of this is drama to be ignored? I know my DCs have a longer history in this club then you, so quit implying it is no big deal. You promoted the guy.
