Jealous. I'm definitely left-leaning - mostly on social issues but with a little more moderate fiscally and, that said, Hogan hasn't been as bad as I feared but Ben Jealous is talking my language.

(Carroll County, MD here - in the VAST minority in that area)

Jealous. I like a lot of his platforms. The only thing I find a little questionable is full-day pre-K. I know it makes parents schedules easier, but that s a long day for 3 &4 year olds.

I know tons of Dems who voted for him.

Switching gears: how on earth did Chelsea Manning come in 2nd place??? The other losers must feel pretty crummy.

Racism with a side-order of homophobia, eh?

You are a vile, disgusting creature.

DP here. You are very, very wrong. Chelsea Manning is a convicted traitor. She pleaded guilty to violating security and espionage laws. She was only available to run for office because her sentence was commuted by Obama. There are many who feel that a convicted felon who did not even serve the full sentence is not a good candidate for political office (ignoring the obvious jokes of convicted felons being perfectly qualified to serve in the US Senate). The feeling that she is completely inappropriate for the job and shouldn't have gotten as many votes as she did can easily have nothing to do with her transgender status or any judgment of it.

I'm sorry but what? I wasn't PP but Chelsea Manning spilled confidential info on our nation's military. That is messed up.

Okay, out of curiosity, are any of you who say you are voting for Jealous from anywhere other than Montgomery County?

Hogan still has a 70+% approval rating across the state, well over 80% outside of Montgomery County. The polls from as recent as last week state that those who say that they would vote for Jealous over Hogan are still under 20% (last I saw, it was around 16%) whereas those who say they would vote for Hogan over Jealous are over 40%. That's a large discrepancy to overcome. While I know this polling was done when there were other Democratic candidates and that some will move to Jealous from other Democratic candidates, prior to the primaries, Hogan still had a big lead over ALL Democratic candidates combined (totaled about 36% combined). Additionally, there are some who supported other Democratic candidates, like Baker, who will be supporting Hogan rather than Jealous.

It is up to Jealous to rally a lot of the undecided and Independents to his flag, but I think he's going to have a hard time doing that. I think it is a very hard uphill battle for Jealous.

Ditto. Voted for Baker but will hold my nose and vote for Jealous. He won't win but it will be closer than last time.

Name recognition for Chelsea. And it was a very small percentage despite being 2nd.

I will vote for Hogan. I voted for him last time too. I thought the calendar thing was dumb but otherwise think he’s done a good job.

I am in the same boat, except I didn't support him last time. It says a lot when one of the main complaints is slightly changing the school calendar. I didn't like that decision, but I also don't think it is a big deal at all.

State government superseding historical local control of school systems to benefit business to the detriment of parents and students is a bigger deal than you’re making it out to be.

Exactly

I’d agree if the left weren’t overreaching so much. Jealous is promising all sorts of free shit. Who’s going to pay for all that. I’d rather take a centrist republican who hates Trump and won’t spend taxpayer money like a drunken sailor.

There's plenty of taxpayer money to spend. Relax. There was a huge surplus last year. And people shouldn't balk at being asked to contribute a little more. That money goes s long way towards making people's lives better.

Ah yes, the ever replenishing money tree. With Jealous as gov and Elrich in Moco, I am sure we wouldn't see an exodus of higher earners. Let dc or VA collect taxes from those folks.

If VA or DC wants the money of racists and white supremacists who move out of state simply because they cannot bear to have a POC as their governor, then that's for their conscience to deal with. I say good riddance. If getting rid of people like that was as simple as raising taxes a few dollars, then hell yes! Let's raise them a LOT ! We can have a butter quality of life, better amenities, superior schools, a real and effective safety net for the homeless and new Americans, AND no racists. Zero downside.

Exactly. And the Dems are really tone deaf in running a progressive redistributionist candidate named "Jealous" against a popular incumbent.

Anonymous wrote:Jealous, but I'm in DC so it's irrelevant. I will not vote for any Republican for any level of government until and unless they fundamentally change their platform and tactics. The Supreme Court decisions handed down yesterday illustrate why this is important - there is no such thing as a moderate Republican because they all toe the party line, which is extremist. Mitch McConnell's theft of a SC seat will have wide-ranging implications for American rights and civil liberties, and zero so-called moderates raised a peep then or now. I firmly believe every Republican politician places party over country. Further, due to their party's rightward drift, they are unable to win by appealing to centrists and therefore are "forced" (as a result of their own actions) to kowtow to their extremist fringe to get elected. Anyone with an R after his or her name is complicit.

+1000 but I am in Maryland. Jealous wasn't my 1st choice, but he is now.
