When looking for a school, I have looked for diverse schools, that diversity could come from any race, religion, I have never looked for Indian kids specifically. As a minority, I understand you may feel a little out of place in a 90% White school but if a school has 30% - 40% minority population (Asians, Middle Eastern, Hispanics, AA etc) then what exactly is the issue? Interestingly my kid's class has 5 Indian kids and he doens't have any level of friendship with them, all his friends are Chinese, Korean. Kids will like who they like, we should encourage exposure to different cultures, races and not try to put our kids in a bubble.
It’s too bad you can’t get out of your own bubble and understand how people may think differently than you.

I am not sure you have thought through this well - the issue is not whether your kid will make friends with kids of a certain kind. To continue in the same superficial vein, the issue is will there be any opportunity at all for a kid to have any friends of that kind.
Also - let me get this straight - you looked for diverse schools, and did not place any importance specifically to Indian kids, and your kid ended up in a school where he has five Indian kids in his class?! And *you* are preaching?!

I am serious. This Indian thread and the other Asian thread are beyond racist.
+1
We are white and at a diverse school, but the whole cheerleading squad is black. Where can I find a school with cheerleaders that look like my child? Is this also a legitimate ask?
I’m going to have to agree on this. There are no schools near me where whites are a majority. My white kids have been minorities since they set foot in school. Is it legitimate for me to ask where my kid will have the most white classmates? What’s the cutoff at which this is legitimate: 10%? 20%? Or can we just agree it’s not legitimate? If whites have to be ashamed to want to be around other whites then it seems everyone else should be too.

It will be hard to find a HS with 8% south Asian population in MD. Also, you can look up the data provided by MCPS if you need to move due to wanting to have more than 8%. OP situation is still different that yours.
Why? Because all of the high schools have percentages higher than 8%, or because all of the high schools have percentages lower than 8%?

I think we’re having a misunderstanding. My local high school is 8% white. I’m not just talking about not being in the majority.
So you're in a minority in your high school, so what, the whole rest of everything is white in the US. Turn on the tv, look at magazines, read history, go to movies, look at the politicians, probably the teachers also. There is no shortage of white folks for your kids to see/hear/be around/learn about/find as role models. Will you stop acting like it's the same thing as being a minority in this country? For the love.
Seriously. We aren't white. We live in a community that is majority non-white. And yet my toddler still seems to have come to the conclusion that "Americans are white". I did not say anything remotely like this to him but somehow he came to that conclusion by watching TV, traveling, etc.

Now some of the posters above can go after School for being a racist by trying to ensure that every kid in class has at least 1-2 other kids who look similar to them.
All the kids in my son's class look similar to him. They all have that "homo sapien" look
