OP, you’d probably have better luck going into private practice for a higher salary.
Tutoring might work, as you can charge $90-$100/hr for some highly sought after subjects. But you’d have to be in business for yourself. If you work for a tutoring company, you’ll net only $30/hr. Developing a private tutoring practice takes a lot of time if you want to fill 5 nights/wk with high-paying clients. Of course, if one gets flaky and cancels, you won’t make your $2k target.
Bartending works well, but only at busy bars. Those high-tipping spots are looking for experience and often have friends of current employees tripping over themselves to land jobs. (Though you might want to start asking around your neighborhood for referrals.)
